The amount of rainfall in the area of Philadelphia was 6 to 10 inches. Throughout the hurricane's storm path, Irene caused a lot of destruction and damage and at least 56 deaths. Damage estimates a range of approximately $10 billion to $15 billion in the U.S. It was dangerous for about 65 million people living in the Carolinas to Cape Cod with the storm that headed their way of the east coast. State officials, utilities, transportation facilities, ports, industries, oil refineries, and nuclear power plants had to use emergency plans so maximum damage would not occur. Before the hurricane, residents supplied themselves with food, and attempted to make their homes and vehicles less prone to the hurricane's potential negative results.
